I had always wanted to become a physical therapy assistant but when my husband got into a car accident, I had to stay at home to take care of him. Not only was our financial stability decreasing by the day because he couldn’t work, but the medication that he needed was expensive. We had some money saved up for “rainy days” but I needed to find a job and fast. There was just one problem. I couldn’t leave my husband’s side for more than an hour due to the supervision that he needed. I was beginning to lose hope. How would I be able to get a job to support the family?
Luckily for me, I learned that training to be a physical therapy assistant online was also an option that was open to students who were looking to get their associate physical therapy degree. It was absolutely a dream come true for me. I would be able to receive the education that I so desperately needed and also stay by my husband’s side if anything was to happen.
Training how to be a physical therapy assistant online was easy and simple. There are some schools which allow students to learn at their own rate and others which have set schedules for the students. The latter option is more similar to the 2 year degree program that is offered at physical therapy assistant schools. I chose the first option because I wasn’t sure about the time I could commit to the program. It turns out that I finished the degree way earlier than expected. I am a quick learner after all!
The difference between getting a degree to become a physical therapy assistant online and at a school is the type of schoolwork offered. Physical therapy assistant online courses provide their students with the necessary coursework all organized in folders online. It was easy to manoeuvre around the site and get all the materials needed for my classes. The lectures were easy to understand and I loved that I could pause a lecture and get back to it later.
Once in a while students will have to visit a school facility to perform some hands-on training but other than that everything was a piece of cake. The class sizes are normally rather small and it is so easy to get a hold of the professors if any questions are to arise. I know I had to contact them every week or so with some concepts that I didn’t understand. Not only were the professors kind and understanding, but they were also very patient with me until I fully grasped the concept.
Overall, I would have to say that my training in becoming a physical therapy assistant online was amazing. I loved every aspect of my schooling. Not only was it easy and convenient for me, I also received all the training that I needed to get a great job in less than 2 years. Who could ask for more?
As of right now, I work in a wonderful office. My husband has recovered but doesn’t work yet and our quality of life could not be any better. I would definitely recommend learning how to be a physical therapy assistant online for any of the people who have time commitment issues. Who knows? You might even end up like me and finishing the degree program early!
